With the 4th of July just 2 days away, many people usually head out of town.
According to AAA, not as many people are hitting the road this year.
Many people are staying in town and finding alternative plans such as the Salem Fair.
The gates opened today at 4 p.m. and the line was more than 100 people long.
Many people drove a long distance for the $10 discount ride wristbands.
Dee Parson and her husband usually head to the beach.
This year they stayed in Salem.
Parson says a beach trip costs her family between $700-$800.
A trip to the fair costs her family $50.
The biggest reason for people staying home--rising unemployment rates and uncertainty surrounding personal income.
But AAA says air travel is expected to rise this holiday weekend.
