Played my first game with the Roanoke Valley Women's Soccer League this weekend ... and LOVED it! The field is filled with ALL skill levels - whether you've never played a day in your life, or you've played all the way through your college years. What I noticed most ... everyone was having fun.
I snapped this picture from the sidelines during this weekend's scrimmage...
I left the field with a smile from ear to ear - finally I found somewhere to play soccer in Roanoke!
I've played on recreation leagues everywhere I've lived ... Ohio, Vermont, Texas, Wisconsin and was beyond bummed when I moved to Roanoke and couldn't find a women's league or co-ed team to join.
Not only do I love the sport, but when you're new in town, it's a great way to meet new people. I still keep in touch with many of my friends who began as teammates in various rec leagues.
I have said before I want to give a HUGE shout-out to the woman who took the time to organize this league. I found an article that says the woman's name is Edna Whittier... THANK YOU EDNA !!!!
Here's a link to that article just in case you missed it...
