Becky says: Tragedy strikes VT again

Posted: Updated:

Before I go into the events of today's shootings on Virginia Tech's campus, I first want to say my heart goes out to all of those who must now deal with the days ahead without Officer Deriek Crouse.

He will, no doubt, be missed.

Here's a look at how December 8, 2011 unfolded on Virginia Tech's campus.

Two people, including Officer Deriek Crouse, are dead after a shooting.  It took place around noon, after a campus police officer made a routine traffic stop in a parking lot near McComas hall.

During the stop, a gunman walked up to the officer and shot and killed him.
We have learned the gunman was not the person pulled over in the traffic stop.

A short time later, a man was found dead near Duck Pond Drive.  Officials have not confirmed the second person found dead was the suspect, but they have eluded to the fact.

Police say there is no longer an active threat on campus.

A candlelight vigil has been planned for tomorrow at 6:30.  It will take place at the April 16th Memorial on Virginia Tech's campus.

Officer crouse joined the Virginia Tech Police Department on October 27, 2007.  He leaves behind his wife, five children and step-children, and his mother and brother.
