Buchanan town treasurer removed amid investigation

BOTETOURT COUNTY, VA --

Town of Buchanan Treasurer Wanda Smith has been removed from her position.

According to Buchanan Mayor Thomas Middlecamp, Smith was removed on January 16th.

10 On Your Side confirmed that Smith is being investigated by the Botetourt County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police for suspected missing town money.

Smith served as town treasurer for nearly 30 years before being removed.

The Buchanan Treasurer is appointed by the town council.
