Our team has learned that the General Manager of Mountain Valley Transportation, the bus company contracted with transportation for Roanoke City Schools, is charged with driving under the influence, according to the defendant's attorney, Ray Ferris.
Robert Andre Harris was arrested in Salem on Jan. 22, charged with DWI, and refused a blood/breath test. He was not driving a company vehicle or bus, said Ferris. As General Manager of Mountain Valley Transportation, Ferris says he did not drive any of the buses.
Over the phone, Ferris said Harris is no longer an employee of Mountain Valley Transportation. Ferris says his client is regretful of the circumstances that lead to his arrest, and that safety for children is of utmost importance to him. Ferris also says Harris was not working when he was arrested.
Court records show Harris was released on his on recognizance. His next court hearing is on Feb. 28 in Salem General District Court.
