Two dead after crash in Goodview

UPDATED WEDNESDAY, 10:37 A.M.

A man who was hospitalized after a Bedford County wreck that killed another man Tuesday night has died, police said.

A 1986 Chevrolet pickup truck crashed into a Goodview Road grocery store and caught fire, Virginia State Police said.

One man died at the scene while the second was taken to the hospital.

Virginia State Police Sgt. Bob Carpentieri confirmed this morning that the second person has died.

The men have not yet been identified.

The accident happened just after 8:30 p.m. in the 7700 block of Goodview Rd.

The two men were traveling south on Virginia 653 when they came across railroad tracks and somehow the driver lost control, police said.

The truck became airborne and hit the front of Goodview Grocery Store and caught fire.

UPDATE:

State police say one of the two people inside the pick-up truck was killed, the other was flown to Roanoke Memorial. We're also told no one in the store was hurt.

10:30 p.m.: 

One person is dead and another in the hospital after a truck crashes into a local grocery store.

State Police tell us that a 1986 Chevy pick-up truck crashed into the Goodview Grocery store after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

VSP spokesman, Sgt. Robert Carpentieri says, the driver was headed south on Mill Iron Road. The truck went air bourne after crossing the railroad, landed in the store, and caught on fire.

One person is dead and another person was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

No word on the identity of either person. 

Firefighters tell us, there were people inside the store at the time of the crash.
