From the top of Bent Mountain, the Roanoke valley looked like a winter wonderland. Throughout the day though, warm temperatures caused some of the snow to melt. But as the sun went down, temperatures started to drop, and all the melted snow became a concern.
"I am little concerned about the trees going down because we do have trees that do periodically come down in this neighbor," says Vicky Gillespy.
Snow and ice already took down a tree in Gillespy's back yard, and she worries the melted snow will freeze and take down more trees. She is also worried about the roads.
"Just refreezing and it can get slick at times and make it difficult to get up and down the road," says Gillespy.
Alexander Adkins says he is also worried about the roads especially the one he lives on, Timberlane Avenue.
"We got water still melting down the hill this is going to turn into ice completely. Some of these other roads and streets are much steeper than this and are going to be impassable," says Adkins.
Several roads and intersections in Roanoke had huge puddles of water. Others had slushy snow, which people tried to avoid driving on.
"I have already seen one car got right off into a ravine here in Garst Mill road and there is probably going to be a lot more is people aren't careful," says Adkins.
V-dot crews tried pushing as much of the snow as they could off the roads to prevent slick conditions, but Adkins says he isn't going to take any chances.
"I am going to stay in my house where it is nice and warm and stay off the roads," says Adkins.
