Your First Health: Manna-thon

Posted: Updated:

Manna Ministries is a local non-profit which serves thousands of working poor in our area and one of it's biggest fundraisers is right around the corner.

The "Manna-thon" consists of an 8K and 5K runs, and a 3K walk.

Our FOX fitness expert, Katie Carroll, owner of Roanoke's Bootcamp Challenge, has stepped up to help people with what they are calling "Pew to 5K"-- a 10 week program to help people prepare to complete a 5K. The program is free, you just need to register for the race to take part. All of the money raised will go to Manna Ministries which opens its doors every Thursday evening to the working poor in our area to provide families with food and clothing.

Ron Willard, one of the Manna Ministries volunteers, tells us, "A majority of our money comes from our donors, our sponsors. We are well on our way, we are ahead of where we were last year as far as our sponsorship levels go in comparison to time frames so we're pretty excited."

The Pew to 5k members meet Tuesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. at Parkway Wesleyan Church, for a workout which will consist of cardiovascular training as well as some bootcamp style strength training. The Manna-thon will be Saturday, May 12.
