Air Force Flight Nurses Honored

A special ceremony at the D-Day Memorial in Bedford honored the contributions of the women in our military. During their annual ceremony in Bedford, the D-Day Memorial Foundation dedicated a new plaque honoring the service of Air Force Flight Nurses. Historians say the women helped evacuate and save more than one million wounded soldiers, and often had to go straight into the line of fire to help them. WWII Flight Nurse Lt. Evelyn Kowalchuk said, "I just live every day with that honor and the pride of what I did."

The plaque will be on permanent display in the Air Force section of the Memorial.
