Bedford's Golden West Foods to close

Heartbreaking news for more than 100 people who work at a food processing facility in Bedford.

According to the Virginia Employment Commission's state layoff WARN web site, Golden West Foods Inc. notified the state Wednesday, that it plans to close its Bedford site on Friday, June 1st.

The closure means 119 people will lose their jobs.

FOX 21/27 has put in contacts to the company, but has not heard back as of this evening, regarding the reason for the closure.

According to Bloomberg Businessweek, Golden West Foods is a subsidiary of Brooks Food Group, Inc. Golden West processes and supplies poultry, beef, vegetables and bread products.
