ROANOKE COUNTY, VA --
Federal investigators outlined their case against suspended North Cross teacher Tom Keelan in a nine page complaint on file in U.S. District Court in Miami, Florida.
Much of the FBI's evidence against Keelan came from a taped phone conversation between Keelan and the victim, a 17-year-old boy, on May 24.
Last Saturday, June 16, court records show Keelan waived his Miranda rights and confessed to a long sexual relationship with the boy.
Court records claim the boy was 15 when the relationship started.
In May 2011, the FBI wrote in the complaint that the boy's parents found out and sent the teenager to an out-of-state school.
That August, investigators attempted to trap Keelan by pretending to be the boy on his email account but the ruse didn't work.
Last May, court papers show the victim decided to cooperate with the FBI, leading to Keelan's arrest.
Keelan was an award-winning English and drama teacher.
He had the victim in one of his classes when he taught in Miami during the 2009 school year, according to court documents.
The complaint says North Cross hired Keelan in 2010.
Keelan is set to have a detention hearing tomorrow in U.S. District Court in Miami.
