APCo Sends Home Some Power Repair Crews For "Behavioral Issues"

by Scott Leamon:

Appalachian Power has declined to elaborate on what it means by any "behavioral issues" involving OnPower Energy.

An ApCo spokesperson also declined to say exactly how many employees are the "handful" of OnPower employees involved.

The bottom line seems to be that the bad behavior of just a few, or maybe even a couple, OnPower employees sent the entire outfit home.

OnPower employees took up 53 rooms at the Holiday Inn Airport in Roanoke.

From Scott Leamon, reporter in the field:

Appalachian Power's vice-president of operations tells me the company asked for 53 rooms at the Holiday Inn Valley View to be vacated, and is sending home repair crews from OnPower Energy Services from Florida.

The decision came after a "behavioral issue of a very serious nature" with a "handful" of OnPower workers. APCo would only say that a handful could mean between 2-50 workers.

The OnPower workers are being replaced by crews from Entergy. The workers coming in tell me they're from Arkansas and Indiana.

From Scott Leamon, reporter in the field:

I've learned through multiple sources that "OnPower Energy Services" from Florida is leaving the outage recovery effort in Roanoke, and checking out of 53 hotel rooms.

The crews will be replaced by crews from other companies from Arkansas and Indiana.

We're working to get more information about why the Florida crews are leaving.
