BUCHANAN, VA --
The Town of Buchanan's Volunteer Fire Department Chief has been arrested.
According to the Botetourt County Sheriff's Office, a warrant in Roanoke County was taken out against Billy Joe Carter, after a telephone conversation. Deputies arrested Carter this past Friday on charges of making phone threats to another firefighter. Carter has since been released on an unsecured bond.
Roanoke Fire-EMS Captain Willie Wines Jr. tells WSLS that he took out the warrant, after a conversation that took place this past Thursday night.
Sheriff Ronnie Sprinkle says Carter was also involved in a shooting in Botetourt County several weeks ago. Investigators believe Carter ran into the woods with Steven Prease, before gunshots were fired at several officers.
The Sheriff's Office says no charges have been filed against Carter in the shooting incident so far, but deputies are investigating.
