Salem water main breaks, blocks several roads - FOX 21/27 WFXR Roanoke/WWCW Lynchburg News, Weather

Several roads in Salem were closed this morning due to a water main break.

According to city spokesman Mike Stevens, the break took place shortly after 5:00 p.m. near Longwood Park.

Here are the roads blocked:

East Main Street heading east is closed from Thompson Memorial to Lynchburg Turnpike

East Calhoun and East Burwell are closed to traffic

Southbound Lynchburg Turnpike stretching to Idaho Street also is closed

Stevens says the roads will likely remain closed through midday Thursday, as repair crews work to fix the pipe.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area, and use route off of 4th Street when possible.
