More layoffs are coming to workers at the ITT Exelis plant in Roanoke County.
According to ITT Exelis Director of Communications for Geospatial Systems Jared Adams, the company has seen "an impact on the size and frequency of night vision contracts," due to anticipated cuts in government defense spending. Adams says as a result, the company needs to "adjust production capacity, as well as employee headcounts, to match this new business reality."
Adams did not have a total number of employees who would be laid off.
Back in January, ITT Exelis laid off about 300 hourly workers at the Hollins plant, and gave the same reason for the layoffs. That layoff was followed by another 75 layoffs of salaried employees in the middle of the month.
