For years, Debbie Stump and her husband have walked through the doors of Horizons Bar and Grill. Soon, that will change.
"My husband and I really enjoy the restaurant and enjoy patronizing all of the restaurants downtown and it is saddens me to know they are closing," Stump says.
In December, Horizons will close their doors forever.
"We feel we have lived our dream, we have had a great time, met lots and lots of people," says owner Debbie Spangler.
Horizons will join a list of many other restaurants that have closed in Roanoke recently, including Tudors Biscuit World, The Library and The Little Chef Restaurant. They closed because of the economy.
"Everyone downtown has felt the effect of it," Spangler says. "Both restaurants and retail as well."
Spangler says it hasn't been easy being in the restaurant business. While others are closing because of the economy, Spangler says that is not the case for them.
"You can't blame it on Center in the Square. Our business has declined a little bit like everyone's has. You can't say any one single thing. We just decided we just don't want to have the restaurant anymore," Spangler says.
While losing another great restaurant isn't what Stump and her husband like hearing, they say they understand.
"I am glad to hear they have done well and it is sad to lose a wonderful restaurant," Stump says.
