ROANOKE, Va. (AP) The National Park Service is extending the deadline for concessionaire proposals to operate three Blue Ridge Parkway properties in Virginia and North Carolina.
Parkway concessions specialist Lisa Davis tells The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/V3HDus ) that no bids were submitted by the original July deadline. The new deadline is Oct. 24.
The park service is seeking concessionaires to operate the Peaks of Otter and Rocky Knob properties in Virginia and the Doughton Park property in North Carolina.
The agency had hoped to find one concessionaire to operate all three properties. To make the properties more attractive, the Peaks of Otter lodge and restaurant will be separated from the other two.
