Roanoke Police Warn of Tree Service Scam

Posted: Updated:

The Roanoke City Police Department is warning of a thief going around to homes posing as a tree service worker.

On Tuesday, Oct. 16, an 80-year-old woman told officers that a man came to her home on Mud Lick Road a little before 1:54 p.m. The man entered the woman's home and claimed she owed him $850 for tree removal. The man even showed the woman an invoice.

The woman stated she never hired a tree service company and would not pay.

The man then grabbed the woman's purse off of a table and ran away from the home.

If you have any information on the case, call the Roanoke City Police Department at (540) 853-5959.

Police remind everyone, and especially seniors:

Do not let anyone you do not know into your home.

Do not give money to anyone who comes to your door offering to make repairs to your home or trying to collect money for work they claim they performed in the past.

Do not feel pressured to make a decision immediately if someone comes to your door offering to make repairs to your home.

Talk to a loved one or trusted friend before making any decisions to have repairs made to your home.

If someone comes to your door and you feel your safety is being threatened, or if you notice suspicious activity in your neighborhood, call 911 immediately.
