Posted: Updated:

Staunton police tell Fox 21/27 Dallas Chaplin is now in custody.

He was caught in Staunton around 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Harrisonburg police said they tracked a fugitive to Roanoke.

Harrisonburg police lieutenant Chris Rush said officers have obtained a murder warrant for Dallas Chaplin.

Chaplin, from Augusta County, is charged with the murder of Ben Graessle, 19, of Harrisonburg, Rush said.

Rush said Chaplin shot and killed Graessle at what investigators believed was a party on Dec. 23.

Rush said investigators tracked Chaplin to Roanoke on Christmas Day and have been looking for him since.

A Roanoke police spokesperson confirmed the department is assisting Harrisonburg and federal authorities in the manhunt.

Rush said his investigators talked with detectives from Roanoke City police and Roanoke County police.

He said Chaplin is considered armed and dangerous.

If you can help find Chaplin, Rush said to call 911.
