Roanoke is using technology in a new way to the sell the city.
The economic development department will soon be attaching QR codes to the majority of its releases.
The codes will be linked to videos that can be watched on tablets and smart phones.
Roanoke Economic Development Director Wayne Bowers said the idea came from the Wall Street Journal and he immediately thought it could translate here in the Star City.
"Well it puts us in person more or less," he said. "Not just a printed page but you can actually see us talking about the benefits of our community."
QR codes are already on many of the city's business cards.
Bowers expects the codes to be used to help recruit new businesses within the next couple of weeks
