Friday morning, students at Galax Elementary School were presented a $10,000 check after getting the most votes in a national contest.
The CEO of insurance company UCT handed over the money to students in the special education program.
A couple months ago school leaders put together a video and entered to win the prize.
"It is a dream come true, literally. This is winning the lottery for a school or for a teacher. I never dreamed, it was nice hope and as it got toward the end it was more and more it might happen and then that last day, oh it's just unreal," explained Linda Hunter, teacher.
Annually, Ms. Hunter works with about a $300 budget, so $10,000 will go a long way in the classroom.
