Giles County Town Gets Facelift From Radford Builder

Posted: Updated:

There are new digs for leaders in the Town of Narrows and eight future apartment tenants in an old furniture store. Mayor Clayton Davis' office, along with other town leaders and the council chambers, have moved onto Main Street downtown.

"I wanted to use this area of town as a footprint for everyone else to follow," Davis said.

Joe Fortier of Taylor Hollow Construction has specialized in restoring historic buildings for years. Much of the company's work restoring these types of buildings has helped revitalize the city of Radford. Now the company's focus has shifted to the town of Narrows.

"There are areas in Virginia that have vital downtowns," Fortier said. "There's no reason the communities we work in can't have more robust communities with the downtown as the center."

Crews with Taylor Hollow Construction are not quite ready to leave town yet. They are working on restoring a pair of buildings next door to the new Narrows town offices. There is now progress in a place where the construction company and leaders are working together to get this town going again.

"We would much rather work on a building that is in downtown, that has some history to it, that is part of the fabric of the community, and make it beautiful and make it something that contributes again," Fortier said.

So what once was an old furniture company in town could be another step toward renewing Narrows.
