The Franklin County Sheriff's Department is leading a three-day active shooter training for deputies and public safety.
The first day of training was held at Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Rocky Mount, where participants were trained in several scenarios throughout the school.
"This type of hands-on training is important for our deputies and public safety," said Capt. Harry Clingenpeel with the Franklin County Sheriff's Department. "In case we do have a situation, we'll know our plan."
This is the first time public safety has teamed up with the Sheriff's Department for this training. The Sheriff's Department holds this type of training each year.
