Italian Hero Sandwich with Provolone and peppers
1 loaf crusty French bread
3 slices hard salami
2 slices thinly shaved prosciutto
2 slices thinly sliced provolone
1 c. bell peppers, sliced julienne
Iceburg lettuce, sliced thinly
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1/4 tsp. onion powder
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 c. red wine vinegar
1/2 c. olive oil
2 leaves fresh basil, chopped
4 Pepperoncini, sliced in rings
Slice bread in half and reserve.
In a hot skillet, saute the peppers until softened. Slice the lettuce finely or purchase pre-shredded lettuce.
Combine spices, vinegar, and oil and whisk vigorously until combined. Add Pepperoncini and stir. Let this mix sit for a while to marinade.
Layer your meats and top with peppers and cheese, then broil until melted. Then toss the lettuce in the dressing and top the sandwich.
