Numbers recently released from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics show an increase in jobs for the Roanoke Region.
Last year, Roanoke added 2,200 jobs, compared to the 1,000 jobs that were added in 2011.
The increases are seen in mostly the fields of health care, transportation, and business services.
The recent increase in urgent care centers in the region may have contributed to those numbers. Staffing levels at Doctors Express in Roanoke have more than doubled, from eight in 2011 to 20 this year. They say health care is almost recession-proof, because people will eventually get sick.
