Monday we learned David Carson, the chairman of the Roanoke City School Board, will resign effective the end of June.
The state legislature recently appointed him as a judge for the circuit court of Roanoke, Roanoke County, and Salem.
Carson said last week he had been advised by the city attorney's office that he could not serve as a judge and on the school board at the same time.
Carson informed in the school system in a letter this morning.
"My involvement with the teachers and the students of this school system has been the most rewarding experience in my entire adult life other than my wife and my family," Carson said after attending an event at Westside Elementary School.
