The Obama administration will release its long-awaited 2014 budget today. The blueprint proposes deficit cuts through a combination of further tax increases, further reductions in the growth of spending and cuts to entitlement programs.

Tens of thousands of immigrants and their supporters will gather this afternoon on Capitol Hill to demand congressional action on immigration reform. Similar rallies and marches have been held in cities across the country in recent weeks.

First Lady Michelle Obama will be in her hometown of Chicago today to attend a youth violence event. She'll urge business and civic leaders there to invest in more opportunities for young people.

A traffic alert is in effect in Lynchburg starting today. If you use the right turn lane from Mayflower Drive to Candlers Mountain Road, you'll need to use another route today until the April 16 as gutter work is being done. It's part of an ongoing bridge work project.

The US Forestry Service will do a prescribed burn in the Craig Creek, Caldwell Fields area of Montgomery County today. Don't be alarmed to see or smell smoke, particularly along routes 42 and 621. The 580 acre burn will take place between 10:00 a.m.and 5:00 p.m.

Put on some pink today. It's day of Pink, an international movement against bullying, discrimination, homophobia, and transphobia in schools and communities. You're encouraged to wear a pink T-shirt to mark day.

It's a big day for Craig County High School kicker Jefferson Lee. There will be a signing ceremony for him this afternoon at 2:30 as he signs on to play at Mount Union next year. Then tonight, Franklin County High School football player Christian Witcher will sign a letter of intent to play at Ferrum College this fall, tonight at six in the school gym.

The VT KnowledgeWorks Annual Challenge is today at the Inn at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. You can see entrepreneurs compete for the $100,000 award of mentorship and business support services beginning at 9:30 a.m.. This afternoon, Virginia Tech student teams will compete for $10,000 in scholarships.

The Lynchburg Humane Society will have a news conference this morning to detail plans to accelerate the construction of its new facility. The news conference is scheduled for 10:30 across at street from the new center on Old Graves Mill Road.
