Update - Thursday 4/11
New details come to light about the police involved shooting in Montgomery County. Virginia State Police say Robert Kevin Hughes, 41, was the man killed in an exchange of gun fire yesterday in Christiansburg.
Search warrants from Montgomery Circuit Court show police were looking for items used to make meth and attempting to execute felony warrants.
According to the search warrants, police took more than two dozens items from the home including professional drain opener, digital scales, a surveillance system, cell phones, and plastic baggies containing white powder.
We also visited the home where Hughes was killed. There, we spoke to two people who claimed to be his friends. One, Dakota Austin, says he was pulling up to the scene and saw Hughes lying on the ground. He says Hughes had a gun with him at the time but wasn't shooting at police, he was trying to jump on a 4-wheeler parked outside.
One man is dead after a police-involved shooting in Montgomery County.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Department says deputies attempted to serve felony drug warrants to a home on Ridgeway Drive.
Officials say the suspect started shooting at officers after they showed up. That's when officers fired back at the suspect, killing that person. The Sheriff's Department says none of the deputies or officers were injured in the exchange.
Dozens of people live in this neighborhood and some were home when the shots were fired.
"It was weird, came outside and seen all of the police going up the road . I couldn't believe that was happening, that is how it was. Couldn't believe it," says Robert Turpin.
The suspect name has not been released. Virginia State Police are now in charge of the investigation.
