Roanoke Police Department Investigates Homicide

ROANOKE, VA -

Roanoke Police are investigating an early morning homicide. 

Roanoke Police responded to multiple 911 calls of shots being fired in the area of the 3600 block of Round Hill Avenue and Oakland Boulevard just after midnight Saturday.

Gabriel Felix Gomez, 31 of Roanoke, was found shot and killed outside of a home in the 3800 block of Highwood Avenue. 

John Mark Altizer, 54 of Roanoke was arrested and charged with murder. He's being held without bond in the Roanoke City Jail.

Gomez's body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office where an autopsy will be conducted.

    According to Roanoke City Police a shooting suspect is at large after one person was shot on the Roanoke River Greenway near the Ramada Inn on Franklin Road. Police say the victim has non-life threatening injuries. The call came in around 8:55.
