Virginia Tech running back Michael Holmes was released on $2,500 bail on Tuesday.
"I feel great," Holmes said. "I get to eat a good meal now."
He spent two nights in the Montgomery County Jail after police say his involvement in a fight outside the Blacksburg bar T.O.T.S. left one man in the hospital.
Police say Holmes kicked, punched, and dragged one of the victims by her hair.
He didn't want to talk about the case or the charges of malicious wounding he faces, but his lawyer did.
"It was clearly between his girlfriend and previous girlfriend and who started it, and what caused it and how it got broken up, I guess that's all the details we'll have to sort out in court. He feels like he never should have been locked up and I agree with that. Sometimes you just have to let the process play itself out," Turk said.
His mother, Tonya Brandon, traveled from Harrisonburg to be with her son. Holmes' current girlfriend tells us they came to the Blacksburg Police Department shortly after the fight Sunday morning, but she says they couldn't locate the call button to notify police and give them their side of the story. Later, officers came to his apartment to arrest him.
"They said they were so upset and adrenaline was flowing, that they did not recall that the little box on the side of the door, that you push the button and you ask for help," Brandon said.
A judge ordered the 19-year-old to have no contact with any of the victims involved in this case. His next court date is scheduled for June 13.
