The Red Cross is assisting families without a place to call home after a fire ripped through two Roanoke County townhomes.

Roanoke County Fire & Rescue says crews were called to a four-unit townhome in the 5600 block of Hollins Road around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday. While firefighters were inside one of the apartments, part of the attic roof collapsed on top of one of the firefighters. He was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries; he has since been released.

Part of Hollins Road, from Shadwell Drive to the Food Lion on Plantation Road, was closed while crews were on the scene. It took crews about 30 minutes to get the fire under control. Investigators are still searching for what caused the fire.
