Mountain Lake renovations nearing completion

Posted: Updated:
GILES COUNTY, VA -

It is a time for fixing up and final staff meetings here at Mountain Lake Lodge in Giles County.

"This past weekend and this upcoming weekend, we've had what we call a soft opening so we are letting guests come and preview what the new Mountain Lake is all about," said Heidi Stone, Sales and Marketing Director for Mountain Lake Lodge.

Nearly all available rooms were full as guests enjoyed brand new beds and a renovated restaurant. While the lake will not be full until next summer, officials at the hotel say people staying at the resort will be able to watch it rise at about one million gallons a day. Giles county tourism leaders hope all of the improvements pay off

"It is so special that they can take that and polish it up, make it sparkly and really bring in tourism to the area," said Cathy Clark, Executive Director of the Giles County Chamber of Commerce.

One of the newest additions here on Mountain Lake is Mountain Lake Outfitters. A new one-stop shop for day trippers to make their experience here a whole lot better. Guests will even get their first crack at zip lining later this summer. Construction on the course is nearing completion.

"There will be guided trail maps, biking. There is probably a list of over 50 activities available for guests that really weren't available before," said Stone.

It has been a makeover from the inside out that area tourism leaders and those running the resort hope will put this place back on top of the world.
