Roanoke City Schools 2013 Teacher of the Year from Breckinridge Middle School

ROANOKE, VA -

A Roanoke City art teacher is the schools system's 2013 teacher of the year.

Schools leaders honored James Breckinridge Middle School's Daniel Kuehl at a ceremony at the Jefferson Center Thursday evening.

Kuehl has taught art for ten years, seven of them with Roanoke City Schools.

For the honor, Kuehl received $1,500 in cash, and $150 worth of car supplies from Advance Auto Parts.

Runner-ups Megan Boothe of Westside Elementary School, and Ann McGhee of Fallon Park Elementary School, each received $250.

Kuehl moves on to compete for the regional teacher of the year.

    ROANOKE (WSLS) - Part of Interstate 581 in Roanoke was shut down early this morning following what police say was a DUI crash.The accident happened around 3:10 a.m. Police say a man was driving a truck when he lost control and flipped.He was arrested for driving under the influence.All northbound lanes will be reopened to traffic momentarily.
