The Virginia Department of Transportation is making strides to complete a project in Southeast Roanoke.
You may have noticed some homes marked D-1 or D-2 in Southeast Roanoke. Those are homes V-DOT has purchased to be demolished.
VDOT has almost completely purchased 30 homes and 104 parcels of land to finish the The 13th Street and Hollins Road Improvement Project
The goals of the project include creating two roundabouts, widening lanes, and building a bridge to go over the train tracks on 13th Street.
VDOT says this will ultimately prevent drivers from having to wait for a train to pass, by allowing them to use the bridge instead.
The project has been in the works since the 1980's.
If all the money comes through for the project, they hope to start construction in 2014.
