Roanoke Co. School celebrates SOL testing

There are somechanges this year to the SOL tests in Virginia. The tests are moving away from multiple choice questions and studentswill have more technology enhanced questions. This means more fill in the blankor "drag and drop", selecting multiple answers from a list.

The reading sectionhas also changed a little bit, so teachers at Glenvar Elementary School havebeen working with students on those changes. Everyone expects the math sectionto be difficult after last year's changes.

The tests don't kickoff until next week, so they had a little fun today with a rockstar themed peprally. Teachers came up with a cheer and dance routine trying to pump the kidsup.

Some high schoolfootball team members and the Salem Red Sox mascot also provided someentertainment.

"We just try to givethe kids and the staff a week of fun and relaxation and we just try to pump thekids up because it's stressful. It's a hard time for all of us" said ShellyDix, a 4th grade teacher.

Roanoke City schoolssay they do similar events to get the kids pumped up. It's up to each school toplan an activity if they want.

Some high schoolshave already started SOL testing.  Nextweek, elementary and middle schools can start testing.
