Flood potential continues

Posted: Updated:

A Flood Watch remains in effect through midnight for much of the region as more heavy rain is expected.

An additional one to two inches of rain is expected today, especially for areas north of the Roanoke Valley.  If thunderstorms are able to form, locally higher rainfall totals could be seen.

Flood Warnings are in effect through 5 p.m. for Potts, Dunlap and Johns Creeks.  Water levels have risen due to heavy rain this afternoon, but should start to drop as rain intensity fades during the afternoon.

A Flood Advisory is in effect until 2:30 p.m. for Alleghany, Botetourt, Craig and Greenbrier Counties and the City of Covington.  Up to two inches of rain has fallen today with another one to two inches of rain expected.  Low lying and poor drainage areas could see water pile up over the next couple of hours.

Water levels, while dropping, will remain high.  Additional rainfall could bring levels back up and produce more flooding.

From the heavy rain in this area, the National Weather Service is reporting that a landslide has occurred on US 460 near Little Apple Dr.  The report was made to the NWS by the Emergency Manager.
