As of 10 p.m. Tuesday, crews were using a backhoe to dig out part of Route 11 just north of the Town of Buchanan after today's rain storms caused part of the road to collapse.
According to Buchanan Fire Chief John Manspile, storm debris blocked a culvert and caused the pavement to collapse. All lanes have been washed out.
According to VDOT, both northbound and southbound lanes are closed near the exit ramp towards I-81 North. Northbound traffic is being detoured onto I-81 North at Exit 162. Southbound traffic is being diverted onto I-81 South at Exit 168.
No word yet on when the road will be repaired or re-opened.
