Virginia Tech is new to the League of American Bicyclists' list of bicycle-friendly universities. The BYU program recognizes colleges that promote bicycle-friendly campuses for students, staff and visitors.
Virginia Tech recently started an alternative transportation program which encourages biking or carpooling by offering discounted parking permits or Smart Way bus tickets. Students or employees who bike will also find more bike racks, including covered bike racks, three miles of bike lanes, and nine miles of shared paths around campus.
Bike riders say they're details that make a difference. "It gets better every year," said Yaw Ansah, who bikes to Tech. "I mean, as you can see, construction is going on everywhere and they make room for bikes. In all their construction plans bikes are actually considered."
Virginia Tech is among just 58 colleges in 30 states across America to make the list. You can see the complete list here.
