ROANOKE COUNTY, VA -

North Cross School's varsity basketball coach is retiring due to health reasons.

The private Roanoke County School says Bill Hodges suffered a brain aneurysm in 2009, had to undergo surgery at UVA Medical Center, and now his doctors are telling him to cut back.

"This time, there are health risks which will not allow me to continue coaching," Hodges stated in a news release from North Cross.

Hodges became coach at North Cross in 2011, and his teams reached the Final Four of the state tournament twice.

His record at North Cross was 39-13.

"My son loves Coach Hodges and followed him toNorth Cross.  It's not only because he is a great coach, but also because he is such a caring individual," said Eddie Smith, whose son played for Hodges.

A search for a new head coach is ongoing.
