Northside Softball A Title Contender Again

Posted: Updated:

As the saying goes Rome wasn't built in a day.  When it comes to sports, a legacy isn't woven in one season-- but maybe if you string 25 seasons together you will end up with a winning tapestry similar to the one Lynn Richmond has sewn as the head Softball coach at Northside High School.  When Richmond got to Northside all those years ago, she says there was no softball program.

So she started one.  Twenty-five years later coach Richmond has fashioned over 400 wins,  breaking that mark last season.  It is something her players are happy to say they were a part of.   It was a moment that was made possible by hard work and dedication.

That is an attitude exemplified by Shannon Yopp, a former player and now assistant coach to Richmond.  She takes pride in coaching beside the woman who gave her a chance on the field.

Another thing driving Richmond's team is the desire for a state title. This year's seniors got a taste of a championship in 2010 when they were freshman, and they aren't stopping this year until they go out where they came in…. on top.

Northside currently stands at 16-1, 7-0 in the Blue Ridge District as tournament time slowly approaches.
