Pulaski high schoolers, parents denied trip to Europe

Posted: Updated:

The Pulaski County School Board is seeing what, if anything, it can do to help more than two dozen parents and students at Pulaski County High School after he looks like they'll be denied a trip to Europe.

Pulaski County schools superintendent Dr. Tom Brewster confirmed two teachers at the high school organized the trip, which was supposed to depart in July.

The students and their parents were to visit London, Paris, and Rome among others.

Brewster said, since the school system wasn't involved in any money changing hands, it was not a school district sponsored event.

He said parents wrote checks directly to The European Institute, a Massachusetts based educational travel agency which has had its phone disconnected and is not returning emails.

The Pulaski County sheriff's office is also investigating, Brewster said.

In an email sent May 9th from the two teachers who organized the trip to parents, it starts off by explaining "We need to share some really upsetting news with you all."

It goes on to say the teachers contacted the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office, and the Somerville, MA police department after communications with the travel agency abruptly stopped.

In the email, the teachers explain they vetted the agency using the Better Business Bureau and teacher referrals.

One parent involved, whom declined to be interviewed on camera, told WSLS 10 her family may be out almost $10,000.
