Glenvar High School to Hold 5K in Honor of Michael Sandridge

Glenvar High School will hold a superhero 5K on Saturday to honor its own hero.

The Glenvar Avenger will be run to remember student Michael Sandridge, who died from cancer in January.

Organizers are asking runners to dress like superheroes for the 5K, which costs $15 per person.

All the money will go toward the Michael Sandridge Scholarship Fund and cancer research.

So far, the school has raised more than $15,000.

"I think it's a way of healing," said Glenvar High School Assistant Principal Sonya Cline. "When you feel like you can't do anything, you look to do something, and this is that something we can do."

Registration begins at 8 a.m.
