Natural Bridge, hotel, caverns up for sale

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, VA -

One of Virginia's natural wonders is up for sale.

According to Jim Woltz of Woltz & Associates, the landmark along with the 150-room hotel, caverns, and related properties, are up for sale.

"A lot of people probably don't even realize the Natural Bridge, one of the natural wonders of the world, is privately owned, and it is a great honor to be entrusted with this treasure,"said Woltz, in a news release.

The owner of the properties is Angelo Puglisi.  A total of approximately 1,600 acres is up for sale.

"Mr. Puglisi, who is in his late 80s, has been a wonderful, caring owner of this property for over a quarter of a century. He has set a goal to find a new, trustworthy steward of the bridge for the generations to come," said Woltz.

The history of ownership of the Natural Bridge date back to before the American Revolution, when Thomas Jefferson purchased it in 1774 from King George III for 20 shillings.

A young George Washington originally surveyed the bridge.
