Roanoke Valley Makes a Big Tourism Push

Posted: Updated:

Roanoke City, Roanoke County, and Salem signed an agreement Wednesday to give a percentage of lodging tax money to the Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau. That money should increase the bureau's budget from $1.3 million to $2.3 million.

The money will be used for marketing to help spread the word about what our region and nearby areas have to offer.

"It highlights us even more to businesses who are thinking of coming," said Mike Altizer, the chairman of the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors, "so tourism grows into economic development and businesses grow and expand, and it's just great."
