A Carroll County Sheriff's deputy found a woman's body in Grayson County on Thursday.
Carroll County Sheriff J.B. Gardner said the body has been identified as Desia Rae George.
Vaughan, the Sheriff of Grayson County, said he thought the body had been there for about six weeks. He declined to give the exact location of where the remains were recovered, saying only that it was in the eastern part of the county.
Vaughan said a neighbor found Desia Rae George's cell phone, which kicked off a search of the area where the phone was recovered.
George has been missing since April.
Authorities said earlier this month they wanted to talk to her boyfriend, Matthew Jones, about George's disappearance, but Jones refused to talk to them. He is currently in jail on charges related to a North Carolina bank robbery.
The Medical Examiner's office used dental records to make a positive ID. Officials have not released a preliminary cause of death, but say this is a murder investigation.
