Police investigating deadly Campbell Co. Accident

State Police and Campbell Co. Police are investigating an accident that happened on Route 460 at the Campbell County/Bedford County line during a DUI checkpoint Friday night.

Police say at around 9:30 p.m., a 1997 Honda CRV was traveling west on Rt. 460, when it rear-ended a Ford F-150 pickup truck that had slowed down for the checkpoint.

The driver of the Honda CRV, 25-year-old Emerson L. Evans of Barboursville, Va., died at the scene.

The driver of the F-150, 44-year-old Michael R. Heflin, Jr. of Huddleston, and his wife were taken by ambulance to Lynchburg Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The accident is still under investigation.
