The demand for truck drivers in central and southwest Virginia is continuing to spike.
Partnering with Virginia Western to train drivers, Commercial Driver Services is actively recruiting new drivers to fill the need.
According to the community college, 204 new drivers graduated in the last year with an average placement rate of 87 percent.
Chris Pender with Commercial Driver Services said the demand is across the board, meaning there are plenty of options beyond just long-haul trucking.
"There's still a big demand for drivers," he said. "The baby boomers, they're sort of going through retirement so the demand is growing. The local market is growing, over-the-road, regional. The old saying goes, 'If you touch it, a truck brought it.'"
Pender expects the demand for truck drivers to continue rise over the next year.
