Wouldn't it be great if this was a long weekend? One day, when I'm King, I'm going to mandate three day workweeks and four day weekends.
What do we have on tap? Get it?? TAP?? Yeah. Big Lick Beertopia is Saturday at Lewis Gale Field from noon til six. Live music from Polychrome and Superhold and nineteen new breweries for this year joining up with the seventeen returning from last year. There will be a homebrew competition with the Best In Show earning a spot at the Parkway Brewing Company. Get more information online here.
Then it's off to downtown Roanoke for Light Up The Night with the Square Society's second annual 5K run. Proceeds go toward raising money and awareness for Center In The Square. It all gets under way at 8:30 PM at the corner of Jefferson and Elm Avenues in Downtown Roanoke. Learn all about it online right on over here.
Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson together again as salesmen who are losing market share to the internet, and somehow land internships at Google. But they have to compete with a bunch of young, tech-savvy geniuses for a shot at employment. The Internship is rated PG-13.
In an effort to keep crime rates low, the government implements a once yearly twelve hour purge. All crime is legal and all emergency services are suspended. Ethan Hawke stars as society gets it all out of their system. The Purge, as you might imagine, is rated R.

Summer Shrimpfest, June 8, Salem Civic Center: 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Dinner served from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM. Silent Auction 7:30 PM – 10:00 PM. Live music by Stone Canyon and tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Age 10-12 are just $10 and kids under 10 get in free.
Yard sale/Vendor Blender: at Woodmen of the World, June 8: 10:00 am-2:00pm at The Woodmen of the World building located at 2306 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24017 with local Crafters and direct sales ladies. Enter to win a prize at every Vendor table.
Troutville Trail Days: Troutville Town Park June 7-8: The second annual event is a celebration of the town's designation as an Appalachian Trail Community. The event includes games and activities for young folks, music, food, demonstrations, skits, and displays and sales from outdoor suppliers and orgniazations that support hiking. A Hiker's Hustle 5K Run will be held June 8th from 9am - 11am.
Mingle at the Market Summer Concert series: June 8: Summer Concert Series at the Vinton's Farmers Market 7pm-10pm. There will be an Adult Beverage Garden at this 21 & older event. ID required $5 admission No pets and Bring your own seating.
Blue Ridge: Come enjoy the sounds of Blinky Moon, the taste of great wine, and the feel of an evening in a relaxing, rural setting. Feel free to bring picnics, pop-ups, chairs, and friends friendly leashed dogs & children always welcome. (I think they mean leashes just for the dogs). No outside alcohol. More info here.
Fincastle: Come enjoy great wine and the sounds of Stacy Looman as she takes some of her favorite Jazz Standards, as well as a few Brazilian Ballads and one Spiritual, and makes them her own with a few touches of samba and bossa and Looman's warm, gentle vocals. Entry Fee: with drinking wristband $10, Designated/underage $5, Children under 12 free. Bring your own Fincastle etched wineglass and save $2 off the drinking entry fee. No outside alcohol allowed. No recording of the music permitted.
