National Donut Day: Eat Donuts, Help a Good Cause

Posted: Updated:

Friday is National Donut Day, and to celebrate, donut makers across the country are running all kinds of special promotions and deals. One in our area is giving you the chance to chow down and give back to the community at the same time.

Despite being a BBQ joint, one of the most popular items on Smokey Bones' menu is their hot bag of donuts, made fresh daily.

For every bag they sell Friday, the restaurant will donate $1 to the Salvation Army. Each bag costs $5.99.

National Donut Day started in 1938 as a fundraiser for the Salvation Army, inspired by the women who made donuts and served them to U.S. soldiers during World War I.

Smokey Bones is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and is located outside of Valley View Mall.
