While the storms we've been seeing lately haven't affected some events going on in our area, severe weather almost always has a big impact on swimming pools.
In the two weeks it's been open this season, Splash Valley at the Greenridge Recreation Center has already been closed five times. The closures have happened because of either unseasonably cool weather or heavy rain and storms.
Roanoke County Director of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, Doug Blount, says families can still have fun even if it rains. He mentioned an indoor pool, which has another water park and playground.
Blount says as the summer continues, he knows more people will be heading out to enjoy the water park.
He says when it gets hot and humid in Roanoke, "We see increased visitation as people are ready to go outside and swim."
